Trust in the LORD and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5
It’s easy for us to try and take matters into our own hands, mainly because that’s how we, as humans, are trained from a young age. If we want to be somebody, we have to work hard and get things done, even if they seem difficult. If life isn’t going well, we do what is necessary to make it better.
I’m not saying don’t work hard. I believe hard work is essential for those who trust in Jesus. Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:10 that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. We were made to work, but we must also trust God as He leads us in the work He has called us to. This means we need to be patient with Him as He shows us what tasks to perform and not jump the gun and take matters into our own hands to get things done quicker.
We, as people, feel that if we can understand something, it will give us the ability to accomplish the task that we are facing, but God tells us to lean not on our own understanding and trust Him. If we take out on our own path in our own understanding, we could miss out on everything God had in store for us during our time on that path. If we trust in Him, He will guide us in a direction that not only fulfills the work that we are doing, but also fulfills what He is trying to accomplish as well, which is the work He has called us to.
Remember to trust in the LORD and allow Him to lead you so that your accomplishments are His accomplishments!
